Wall Street slides into opening over concerns over rising coronavirus cases


(Reuters) – Major Wall Street indices opened lower on Wednesday, one day after the Nasdaq hit a new high, as investors assessed the risk to the national economy of an outbreak of coronavirus in several American states.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average .DJI fell 163.14 points, or 0.62%, at opening to 25,992.96. The S&P 500 .SPX opened down 16.89 points, or 0.54%, to 3,114.40. The Nasdaq Composite .IXIC lost 37.55 points, or 0.37%, to 10,093.82 shortly after the market opened.
